Nearly 47 million pounds of food are now affected by an ongoing recall that includes multiple products sold at Trader Joe’s stores in New Jersey.
The items are being recalled over concerns that they may be contaminated with bits of glass, according to health officials.
The recall by Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. was initially announced last month, but was expanded on Friday to include an additional 9,885,240 pounds (or nearly 412,000 cases) of Trader Joe’s vegetable fried rice.
According to a notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the product bears item #5650233 and UPC #00521482.
The FDA said the product was distributed in 43 states, including New Jersey.
The initial recall announced on Feb. 19 affected over 3 million pounds of frozen food products sold at Trader Joe’s, including chicken fried rice sold in 20-ounce plastic bag packages.
The recall was expanded on March 16 to include more than 33.6 million additional pounds of chicken and pork fried rice, ramen and shu mai dumplings, according to the FDA.
The expansion included 16 products made between Oct. 21, 2024, and Feb. 26, 2026, under brand names Trader Joe’s, Kroger, Ajinomoto, Ling Ling and Tai Pei. Among the Trader Joe’s items included in the recall is the brand’s popular chicken fried rice.
