Nearly 5 Million Above-Ground Pools Recalled Over Drowning Hazard

by | Jul 26, 2025 | Personal Injury, Product Liability

About 5 million 48-inch above-ground pools have been recalled due to a drowning hazard.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, nine children, aged from 22 months to 3 years old, drowned between 2007 and 2022 after climbing the pools’ footholds.

The drowning deaths occurred in California, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin and Missouri.

Here’s what else you need to know about what defect to look out for, which pools are subject to recall and how to protect yourself if you have one of these pools.

The pool recall stems from a defect with the compression strap that surrounds the pool legs.

It may create an opportunity for young children to access the pool, causing the potential drowning risk.

The risk is still imminent because a child could still climb on these straps even if a ladder is present.

The following pool models are subject to the recall:

  1. Bestway and Coleman Models sold between 2008 and 2024 under the names Power Steel, Steel Pro and Coleman Power Steel.
  2. Intex Models sold between 2002 and 2012 under the brands Metal Frame Pools and Ultra Frame Pools.
  3. Intex Models sold at Intexcorp.com and Walmart from 2024 to 2025 under the brands Prism Frame Pool and Ultra XTR Frame Pool.
  4. Polygroup Models sold between 2006 and 2025 under the brand names Summer Waves, Summer Escapes, Funsicle, Sand n Sun and Blue Wave

The pools were also sold online at Amazon.com, Wayfair.com and websites for Bestway USA, Intex, Funsicle and Summer Waves.

If you or a loved one has suffered losses due to any of these recalled pools, you may be entitled to compensation. To learn more, contact the trusted personal injury attorneys at Breslin and Breslin today.
