General Motors announced massive recall of nearly 600,000 vehicles and a stop-sale on some of it’s most popular full size SUVs and trucks over the risk of possible engine failure.
The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components in these vehicles may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure, according to the recall report . It also notes that if the engine fails during vehicle operation, it would lose propulsion and increase the risk of a crash.
As a result, vehicles listed in this recall will need to be inspected. If they pass pass the inspection, the dealer will replace the oil filter, oil cap, and add higher-viscosity 0W-40 oil. And for engines that don’t pass the inspection, they will be repaired or replaced.
According to the recall report, warning signs of the possible defect can include knocking, banging or other unusual engine noises, or the check engine light comes on, or other engine-performance issues such as hesitation, high RPMs, abnormal shifting, reduced propulsion, or a no-start condition.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported on April 24, that the recall covers 597,630 total vehicles that include 126,027 Cadillacs, 174,208 Chevrolets and 297,395 GMC cars.
