Toyota Recalls Over 140K Prius Hybrids Due to Door Defect

by | Feb 26, 2026 | Product Liability

Toyota is recalling more than 141,000 Prius hybrid models due to a defect that involves the vehicles’ rear doors.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 141,286 2023-2026 model Toyota Priuses are being recalled because the doors could unlock unexpectedly when a short circuit occurs, leading to potential passenger injuries.

Certain 2023-2026 Toyota Prius hybrid models have defective electrical switches that have a seal to prevent water from reaching the electrical components of the vehicle, according to the NHTSA. When that seal doesn’t work properly or is exposed to excessive water, it can cause a short circuit. As a result, the doors may release without warning and put occupants at risk.

If you or a loved one has suffered losses due to operating these or any Toyota vehicles, you may be entitled to compensation. To learn more, contact the trusted personal injury attorneys at Breslin and Breslin today.
