Wegmans Recalls Chocolate at All 9 NJ Locations

by | Jul 25, 2025 | Personal Injury, Product Liability

A Wegmans chocolate product that was sold at stores across eight states, including every location in New Jersey, was recently recalled due to the presence of an undeclared allergen.

Mellace Family Brands California, Inc. of Warren, Ohio initiated the recall, informing the Food and Drug Administration on June 25 that Wegmans Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils, chocolate-flavored balls made of sugar and starch, contained milk.

Anyone with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk runs the risk of a “serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” if they consume the recalled product, according to the FDA notice.

Milk is one of the FDA’s nine major food allergens. The other ones are eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame.

Any food item containing any of these allergens is required to be labeled as such, but the Wegmans chocolates did not include such a label, the FDA stated.

“The problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the suppliers’ manufacturing process,” according to the FDA notice.

There are nine Wegmans stores in New Jersey, including two in North Jersey: Hanover and Montvale.

If you or a loved one has suffered losses due to consuming this, or any, Wegmans product, you may be entitled to compensation. To learn more, contact the trusted personal injury attorneys at Breslin and Breslin today.
