Over 10K Toddler Sippy Cups Recalled Over Lead Concern

On Behalf of | Nov 29, 2022 | (client-fulfilled) Personal Injury, (client-fulfilled) Product Liability

About 10,500 sippy cups made for toddlers are being recalled because the stainless steel cups might contain exposed lead, which might lead to lead poisoning, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Green Sprouts, which makes baby products sold at big-box retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond and Whole Foods, issued the voluntary recall last week. The recall affects the following Green Sprouts products, according to the CPSC:

  • 6-ounce Stainless Steel Sippy Cup
  • Sip & Straw Cup
  • 8-ounce Stainless Steel Straw Bottle.

The affected products had tracking codes of 29218V06985, 35719V06985 and 33020V06985 and were sold between Jan. 2020 and Sept. 2022. Consumers should immediately discard the bottles and cups, the CPSC said.

According to the CPSC, the reason for the recall is that the bottom base of the cups can break off, exposing a solder dot that contains lead. The exposed solder dot can cause lead poisoning in children if ingested.
