Affected models include the 2011 to 2014 midsize Sonata sedans and the 2011 to 2015 Sonata hybrid vehicles.
According to Hyundai, the belts can detach because a seat belt anchor fastener that may not have been fully latched during manufacturing.
One minor injury was reported because of the problem. The company became aware of the problem in September after an owner reported a seat belt came loose in a crash involving a 2013 Sonata.
Owners will be notified of the recall beginning April 7 and dealers will inspect the belts and make repairs if necessary.
