Wegmans Recalls Chicken in NJ

On Behalf of | Jan 28, 2016 | Product Liability

The New Jersey product liability attorneys at Breslin and Breslin are reporting that popular grocery store chain Wegmans is recalling 1,000 pounds of chicken because the meat was never inspected, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Wegmans made the products outside of the approved hours of operation, according to a government inspector. It’s not clear why the chain altered its production schedule.

While no one has been sickened yet, the USDA classified the situation as a “Class 1” case, which involves “a health hazard situation in which there is a reasonable probability that eating the food will cause health problems or death.”

Customers who bought the meat being recalled are urged to return it to the Wegmans they bought it from for a refund.

Wegmans is recalling products sold at its Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia locations.

The chicken items were produced on Jan. 3, 2016. The following products are subject to recall:

  • Approximately 1-lb. vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wegmans Italian Flavored Chicken Breast Cutlet” with a use-by date of 1/24/2016.
  • Approximately 1-lb. vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wegmans Brown Sugar Barbecue Seasoned Chicken Breast Cutlet” with a use-by date of 1/15/2016.
  • 3-lb. vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wegmans Garlic & Fennel Whole Chicken Roaster” with a use-by date of 1/13/2016.
  • 1-lb. vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wokery Sherry Chicken 27482” with use-by date of 1/13/2016.

If you or a loved one has been injured by this, or any Wegmans product, legal recourse may be available.
