The North Jersey product liability attorneys at Breslin and Breslin are reporting that KellBran Candies, an Ohio-based company, has issued a nationwide recall on their Caramel popcorn because it’s been found to contain undeclared milk product.
As of now no illnesses have been reported and the recall is for the caramel flavor only; anyone with a milk allergy who eats the product is at risk of having a serious or life-threatening reaction.
The issue was discovered during an inspection by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, where they found that popcorn containing milk product, specifically butter, was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk in the ingredients.
The popcorn is packaged in 8-ounce bags with expiration dates of 11/30/2015 and 12/31/2015, which can be found on the back of the packages.
All packages have UPC number 0 96637 50153 9, with Lot Code 181317 4 for the 11/30/2015 packages and Lot Code 211830 6 for the 12/31/2015 packages.
The product was shipped to stores in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Anyone in possession of the popcorn should get rid of it; it can be returned to the store for a refund.
Anyone who ate it and is feeling sick should seek immediate medical attention.
