Multiple-car turnpike crash yields surprisingly fortunate outcome

On Behalf of | Oct 16, 2012 | Car Accidents

After hearing about a multiple-vehicle turnpike crash resulting in lane closures and lengthy time delays for other motorists, it would be reasonable for most people to brace for the worst concerning details regarding the human toll.

Thankfully, accident investigators were able to report no fatalities or even serious injuries sustained in the wake of a fiery three-car collision that occurred earlier this month near Monroe Township in Middlesex County.

The outcome could have been flatly dire, given the factors involved. State troopers pieced together the following evidence regarding the chain car accident that occurred in the early afternoon north of Exit 8A on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Things began unraveling in an instant when the driver of a car slammed into a traffic barrier. That vehicle — which contained two passengers, including the driver’s baby — in turn stuck another car being driven by a Pennsylvania motorist. That car continued the chain reaction by colliding with a truck, which also contained multiple passengers. All told, eight people were involved in the crash.

Investigators deem it fortunate that other vehicles were able to avoid the carnage. Amazingly, the no-injury outcome ensued even though all three vehicles caught fire.

Unsurprisingly, it took several hours following the crash to restore normal driving conditions.
