It is always a tragic occurrence when someone is killed in a motor vehicle accident, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the crash or the nature of victim and his or her life. But sometimes, there are details about such an incident that make it even more difficult to bear. Unfortunately, a recent fatal motorcycle accident, in which a 32-year-old father was killed while participating in a charity bike ride, is one such situation.
The fatal crash took place on a Sunday afternoon as between 800 and 1,000 New Jersey motorcyclists took to the streets to raise money for the March of Dimes. As the motorcycles approached an intersection, two motorcyclists road ahead to shut down an intersection so other ride participants could cross through it safely.
When the motorcyclists came upon an SUV that was approaching from the opposite direction, both applied their brakes but ultimately colluded with one another. The first man slid into the SUV and the second slid into another motorcyclist.
Both men were taken to a nearby hospital, and the first was said to be in stable condition the day after the accident. The second, however, was declared dead shortly after the accident. He leaves behind a fiancée and children, as well as several close friends in the New Jersey motorcycle community.
The driver of the SUV, a 17-year-old girl, has not been charged in connection with the crash. She could find herself defending against a wrongful death or other personal injury suit, however, if the family of the deceased man decides to file such a claim.
