Jersey Shore star causes car accident in Italy

On Behalf of | May 31, 2011 | Car Accidents

Although many New Jersey residents (and most Americans, for that matter) do not rush to claim the stars of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” as their own, it is somehow still newsworthy when one of the cast members runs into trouble with the law. This is the case with the ubiquitous Snooki, who is believed to have caused a car accident in Florence, Italy, where the cast is currently filming its fourth season of the popular reality show.

According to police reports, the accident occurred when 23-year-old Snooki, whose real name is Nicole Polizzi, was driving a Fiat sedan behind an Italian police car assigned to escort Snooki and housemate Deena around the city. Snooki suddenly crashed her vehicle into the side of the police car, and was then forced into a concrete road barrier by the busy rush hour traffic.

Although neither Snooki nor Deena was injured, two Italian police officers were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for whiplash injuries and cuts and bruises caused by their seatbelts. They are recovering, but they will be unable to return to work for at least one week.

Snooki was not criminally charged, but will be penalized for the crash. Under Italian law, if someone is injured in a car accident caused by another, the person who is responsible for the crash automatically loses their driver’s license. The license must remain revoked for at least 15 days, although the Florence police chief can decide to extend that revocation. The chief has not yet announced the status of Snooki’s license.
